CHAPTER 8System Safety Products
Most of the system safety effort involves providing a service. That service is to identify, analyze, and control hazards as early in the life cycle as possible in order to produce cost‐effectively a safer end product. Several products are produced as part of the system safety effort. These products (all documents) communicate and document risk information to management and provide a means of monitoring and auditing the effort.
SYSTEM SAFETY PROGRAM PLAN
Purpose
The purpose of the system safety program plan (SSPP) is to identify the specific system safety requirements for a given project, including specified system safety tasks, risk assessment methodology and risk acceptance criteria, system safety products and milestones, and system safety organization.
Time of Preparation
The SSPP is prepared at the initiation of the project and updated at each review point, generally at the end of each life cycle phase.
Preparer
The SSPP is prepared by the system safety manager and the safety staff and is reviewed and approved by the general manager and the project manager.
Input Requirements
Input requirements for the system safety program plan are available to project description data and requirements, provisions, or guidance provided externally and/or from internal system safety planning procedures.
