Chapter . Perform a Customized Upgrade
With your hardware checked, your data safely backed up, and plenty of free disk space, it’s time to begin the upgrade. (If you’re upgrading from Mac OS 9, be sure to read Upgrading from Mac OS 9? first.)
Keep Your Mac Awake
Before you do anything else, make sure your Mac system and screen are set to stay awake. Because the upgrade could take a while, you might find yourself staring at a blank screen partway through the process and be unable to bring it back to life easily. To do this, follow these steps:
Open the Energy Saver system preferences and go to the Sleep pane.
Move both sliders all the way to the right (“Never”).
