Internet Backup Services
The idea behind Internet backup services is simple: using either a conventional backup program or proprietary software, perform backups as usual, but use secure Internet file servers—rather than local or network volumes—as the destination.
In early versions of this book, I described a few such services and said that although they might be useful in some cases for easy, supplemental off-site backups, their cost was too high, and their speed too slow, to make them interesting as primary backup destinations.
