In earlier editions of this book, I made it my goal to be as comprehensive as I could—to give at least some information about every Mac backup program I could find, with software divided into clear, tidy categories, and detailed feature comparison tables in an appendix. My recommendation was basically: figure out what features you need, pick a program that has all of them, and that's that.
In just a few short years, times have changed. When I most recently checked, I found more than 100 Mac OS X backup applications.
