Chapter 3. Understand Email Account Options

Your iPhone OS device can connect to POP, IMAP, and Exchange ActiveSync servers, and in some cases more than one protocol can work with the same account. Which protocols you use and how you set up your accounts can make a huge difference in your experience of using Mail. You may also need to choose whether, or under what circumstances, to use push email (in which messages are delivered to your device the instant they arrive on the server) as opposed to the more traditional fetch (in which your device actively checks the server, manually or on a fixed schedule). In this section, I explain your choices and what they mean on an iPhone OS device.
