Gmail Setup Tips
I've spent a lot of time in this book talking about Gmail, because it's popular, free, powerful, and a particularly good match for the iPhone OS (not to mention being my primary provider). Even so, Gmail has rather unusual ways of handling email compared to other providers. If you expect Gmail on your iPhone OS device to work just like the Gmail Web site, you may be disappointed—and, for that matter, if you expect it to work just like a conventional IMAP or Exchange account, you'll also find some things that aren't quite right. (You can, as I've noted elsewhere, access Gmail via Safari, but doing so involves a number of trade-offs that I personally find undesirable.)
