Chapter . Back Up Virtual Machine Data

Backing up your Windows data is just as important as backing up your Mac OS X data, but how you go about backing it up may be different. The usual way to use Parallels, Fusion, or VirtualBox is to create a special disk image that appears as a volume within Parallels but as a single file in Mac OS X. (If, instead, you’ve configured Parallels or Fusion to use your Boot Camp volume, see Back Up a Boot Camp Volume.) Mac backup software can’t see inside that image to back up individual files, which means that to use your Mac OS X backup software you must back up the entire disk image. By doing so, you get a complete, bootable (within the virtualization environment) copy of your Windows installation.
