With your iPhone or iPod touch running iPhone 2.x software, you have access to the App Store. Via the App Store, you can install Apple-approved, third-party software on your iPhone or touch. While the App Store has a few kinks to work out, it goes a long way toward fulfilling the dream of the iPhone as a "Mac in your pocket."
You purchase and install App Store programs on your iPhone either (a) directly from the iPhone itself or (b) indirectly via iTunes on your Mac. In the latter case, you can transfer the apps on your computer to your iPhone via a sync. To obtain App Store software, you must have an iTunes Store account.
