Home security cameras come in what feels like a nearly infinite combination of hardware features. As the cost for sensors, processors, cameras, and network interfaces has dropped, equipment makers can pick and choose broadly what they want to build in.
In this chapter, I help you navigate through the thickets of hardware. I start with an important issue of the value of a brand-name product (or lack thereof). You’ll then learn about each category of hardware feature: network interfaces; stands, mounts, and power; motion-sensing types used with cameras; the variety of options you can get with a camera; and all the other hardware sensors, inputs, outputs, and so on that can be part of a security camera.
