Compose Your Shot

You’d think photographic composition would be easy: point the camera at interesting stuff, make sure that stuff is within the frame, hit the shutter button, and then wait patiently for the inevitable Pulitzer nomination. And yet good composition is one of the most difficult aspects of photography. Done well, a photo directs the viewer’s eyes to tell a story. Done poorly, the image is just a bunch of haphazard shapes sharing space. Composition takes practice and time, which is a great excuse to go make more photos.
