Let’s begin this topic with a quick reality check. The term artificial intelligence (or AI) is not a reflection of technological reality: machines haven’t somehow crossed over a mysterious threshold to gain human-like powers of thought, reasoning, and creativity. “Artificial intelligence” is a marketing term. It’s a phrase tech companies use to help convince you to buy their products and services, and it’s a more consumer-friendly term than “machine learning,” “neural networks,” or “large language models,” which are more technically accurate terms for the behind-the-scenes technologies that often lead to the AI label.
