Sometimes you’ve gotta break the rules.
Some of the rules. There are other rules that you should never, ever break. For example, tax law. Don’t break that rule. PCI (Payment Card Industry) compliance is a good rule, too.
But some of your business rules…that’s another story.
Here’s a scenario: We’ve set up our nice point-of-sale box office with our neat little USB credit card swiper and we’re swiping away. Along comes a customer who pulls out her wallet, revealing green pieces of paper. Apparently, even in our technological future, cash is still legal tender. We don’t want to turn her away, but our business rules mandate a trip to a credit card payment gateway.
