Most of us rely on a job for our livelihood, either our own job or that of a family member. Searching for a job, keeping our jobs, and advancing to a better job are central concerns in our lives. Because jobs entail complex relationships with other people, they constantly raise ethical issues. There can be much at stake in how they are resolved, because we rely so heavily on a job-based economy. In this chapter I take up some issues related to the job search, and in the next chapter issues that arise on the job.
