On July 4, 2023, 15,000 employees from the most iconic hotels in Los Angeles, including brands such as Ritz Carlton, Fairmont, Hyatt, Inter-Continental, and Hilton, as well as recently unionized independent and boutique hotels were on strike. While the immediate dispute revolves around wages and work rules, the glaring issue is widening income inequality plaguing the industry.
