6. Architecture and Textual Analytics

Textual analytics fits comfortably within the framework of modern information systems architecture. To see how that fit is made, it is a good idea to look back to the beginning of information systems architecture and to view the progression of architecture leading up to the advent of textual analytics.

The Growth of Information Systems

In the earliest days of information technology, the first information systems consisted of some simple components. Figure 6-1 shows the components of punched cards, programs, magnetic tape files, and reports.
