Introduction
After the discovery of sea routes, tea was brought to Europe by the Portuguese, Dutch and English. The decisive role was played by the Dutch East India Trading Company, founded in 1602. It delivered tea in large quantities from Asia to Holland. Closely related to the tea trade was the business with Chinese porcelain (Sandgruber & Kühnel, 1994).
