Back Up and Restore Your iPhone’s Data and Settings with iCloud

When you sync your iPhone with iCloud, you create a backup of the iPhone’s data and settings in your storage area on iCloud. If your iPhone suffers a software or hardware failure, you can restore the data and settings to your iPhone. At this writing, a standard free iCloud account gives you 5GB of data storage. This is enough to store your iPhone’s settings and your most important data and files. You can buy more storage if necessary, but even if you do, you must set your iPhone to back up exactly those items you want to keep in iCloud. The iTunes Store lets you download again all the apps, media files, and games you have bought, so you do not need to back up these files.
