Open, Set Up, and Close Messages
To start using Messages, you open the application from the Dock. If Messages does not appear on the Dock, you can run it from Launchpad or add it to the Dock.
The first time you run Messages, you set it up with your instant messaging account. Messages works with Apple’s iCloud service, with other instant message services such as AIM and Google Talk, and with Apple’s Bonjour feature for messaging within your network. If you do not already have a suitable account, you can create one during the setup process.
