Turn On the Firewall and Tighten Its Security

A firewall protects your Mac mini from unauthorized access by other computers on your network or on the Internet. Your Internet router likely has its own firewall to keep Internet threats out of your network, but OS X also includes a built-in firewall to give your Mac mini even greater protection.

To secure your Mac mini, you must first make sure the firewall is turned on. You can then decide which incoming connections — connections from another computer to your Mac mini — you will allow and which you will block.
