3.7. Name Photos Using Faces
iPhoto can locate and group the people in your photo library using facial detection and recognition. You can assign names to faces of friends and family members and iPhoto will recognize them when you import new photos. Faces makes it easy for you to find photos of specific people instead of manually searching through groups of photos.

When you first open iPhoto, you may notice next to the Faces icon in the Source list that iPhoto is scanning the photos in your library that contain faces. Let the scan complete before you begin these steps.
