7.10. Work with RAW Files
When shooting photos in the JPEG format, the camera compresses the image so that it takes up less space on the memory card, in turn sacrificing image quality and some processing flexibility. When you shoot in the RAW format, you get the original, uncompressed image data as recorded by the light sensor. RAW files contain significantly more picture information than do JPEG files, and in turn, require more storage space and more processing time on the computer. Working with RAW files provides you a higher-quality image with more flexibility to edit in iPhoto.
