At this point, the students have been introduced to the use of scale and have embarked upon their first substantial scenic design project: the small stage house and the set that it will contain. This week, much discussion and activity is anchored by the fact the set designer is in constant communication with other members of the design team, particularly the director. Models and groundplans are not just generated to solidify the designer’s thoughts or guide construction, but are important tools for a collaborative process.
