Chapter 11. The New Technical Approach
In Chapter 8, we described the following technical challenges of the traditional traffic-management-centric QoS approach:
- Integration challenge: lack of consideration on how to make use of various traffic control schemes such as routing, TE, etc. to complement traffic management; this causes an overemphasis on traffic management.
- Complexity challenge: lack of explicit tradeoff between the benefit of various traffic control schemes and their complexity; this causes a plethora of controls and complexity in the network, and reduces its reliability.
- Interoperability challenge: lack of commercial QoS settlement among NSPs; this causes coordination difficulty among NSPs to differentiate COS's end to end. ...
