Media, technology, and the law

An argument can be made that the telegraph and then the telephone defined electronic communications; they were the keys that unlocked all other communications channels to come. The rollout of these technologies was of interest to the U.S. government, and thus the stage was set for regulation of the telecommunications industry. Individual countries the world over also regulate their communications industries, while the United Nations regulates international telecommunications.
