2 Selected concepts of logic and philosophy

This chapter contains an overview of the concepts of logic and philosophy, which have been selected in such a way as to facilitate introduction of methodological and ethical issues in the following chapters of the book. By no means, this overview can replace handbooks1 and encyclopaedic sources2 providing more complete coverage of the conceptual basis of logic and philosophy. The first section of this chapter is devoted to a typology of the definitions of concepts and terms. Next, basic elements of formal logic are overviewed (Section 2.2), and philosophy as an academic discipline is characterised (Section 2.3).
