2 Selected concepts of logic and philosophy

This chapter contains an overview of the concepts of logic and philosophy, which have been selected in such a way as to facilitate introduction of methodological and ethical issues in the following chapters of the book. By no means, this overview can replace handbooks¹ and encyclopaedic sources² providing more complete coverage of the conceptual basis of logic and philosophy. The first section of this chapter is devoted to a typology of the definitions of concepts and terms. Next, basic elements of formal logic are overviewed (Section 2.2), and philosophy as an academic discipline is characterised (Section 2.3).
