This chapter contains basic information about legal regulations concerning intellectual property (Sections 18.2 and 18.3), their critical analysis (Section 18.4) and an attempt to outline the trends of their evolution (Section 18.5). Distinguishing the legal and ethical aspects of intellectual property protection is important because of many doubts of both ethical and pragmatic nature, which may be a source of moral dilemmas resulting from the conflict between the duty to observe the law and the values, especially moral values which to some extent may be threatened by legal regulations in force.
