10.1 Introduction

In Chapters 8 and 9, we have reviewed what is a widely agreed view of the roadmap for the introduction of new generation control and management planes and of new generation transmission systems.

In both the cases, the evolution is directly pushed by telecommunication market requiring to increase the margin of the carriers via a decrease of the huge network operational costs (OPEX).
