CHAPTER 4 DRAWING UP A BUDGET

As we saw in the previous chapter you are going to have to work out at an early stage what your program is going to cost to produce. You may have been given a fixed budget to work from; you may have only a rough idea of what is available; or you may have been told – this is what we want to do, tell us what it will cost.

Whatever the situation, there are two key cost elements that will determine your budget. These are:

•  the number of shoot days

•  the total editing time you think you will need.

Almost everything else will flow from those two elements.
