Alternatives to Termination

Terminating one’s employment should be the last resort when dealing with a problem concerning an employee. It should only be seriously considered after all other alternatives have been carefully reviewed. Terminating someone has many potential ramifications to both the employee as well as the organization, many of which will be discussed in this book. Besides the inherent risks, terminations also represent a loss to both sides. In many cases, the organization has invested considerable resources in training and developing an employee to be able to perform the job, and the employee may have served the organization productively for many years.
