Termination Planning

If after considering all of the factors mentioned in Chapter 1, you decide that termination is still the only viable option, there are a number of things that should be considered to ensure that this action is done in a professional manner and as legally defensible as possible. There are several factors that should be considered before a termination decision is finalized and implemented.

1.  Is the termination for cause or performance? Terminations of employment are typically based on one of two reasons:

•  Cause: The termination is based on a particular violation of a work rule such as excessive absenteeism, poor quality, violation of drug or alcohol policies, insubordination, job abandonment, customer complaints, ...
