Introduction: Witnesses and Victims in the Theatre of Terrorism
I intend to argue in this chapter that the city is a theatre where terrorism is performed for people who live and work in a city. These people experience their life-worlds as vulnerable and precarious as they witness terrorism in images and simulations in multiple configurations of time and space. The stories of seven witnesses in the city of Melbourne are presented in this chapter. These witnesses face the daily, mundane, everyday, routine and banal reanimation of terrorism in reports of the latest terror scare – what I have argued to be the black museum of journalism.
