Who is doing the leading? What intentions lie behind the direction that leaders offer and the methods they use to influence? What factors guide the leader's focus of attention and judgement? Leadership ultimately begins as an inside job. The leader's course of action and methods of influencing other people reflect the "leader within," the internal reference points that define the leader's inner self.
