Learning from the Fukushima nuclear power plant accident

Abstract

We have reviewed how and why the Fukushima-1 Nuclear Power Plant accident happened. We now turn our attention to what we should do so that we do not repeat the same mistakes. The lessons we learn from the accident are not just confined to the nuclear industry, but we can apply the knowledge we gain from it to society as a whole.

If we take a calm look at this accident and compare it to past ones, we are shocked to find out that we could have avoided the severity of the Fukushima accident if only we had learned from others. We then close the chapter with afterthoughts of the Investigation Committee ...
