6The Road Ahead: Trends and Challenges That Will Shape the Future
I am beginning this final chapter by revisiting where I began the book.
I believe nonprofit organizations represent the best of America. Every day in communities across America and around the world the hungry are fed, the homeless sheltered, the elderly are cared for, the sick and injured are treated, children are nurtured educated and inspired, the environment is protected, victims of natural disasters receive assistance to rebuild, and myriad other services are provided that make our communities great places to live, work, play, and raise a family.
The collective missions of nonprofit organizations are aligned with beliefs put forth by our nation's founders that all women and men are created equal and have an inalienable right to life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness. Nonprofit organizations have a strong belief in the promise of America. At their very core the missions and visions of nonprofit organizations are about providing everyone with the opportunity to succeed, prosper, and live a full productive healthy life. The overarching goal is equity of opportunity for every woman, man, and child no matter their circumstances, their race, their beliefs, their age, their sexual orientation, or their gender.
