Originally developed in the early 1990s by Tim Berners-Lee, HTML stands for HyperText Markup Language and is a language used to lay out and format documents for the World Wide Web that are designed to be displayed in a web browser. In other words, the HTML code describes the structure of a web page. HTML can be used with other technologies such as Cascading Style Sheets (CSS) to style and format the document and scripting languages such as JavaScript to provide functionality and interactive elements.
