Clarifying Personal Goals
When riding the bike, each member of Team Fantastic had the same goal—getting around the lake—and all of you except the leader had the same responsibilities—pedaling hard and staying balanced. Some teams in the real world are like this: Everyone shares a team goal and each person has the same role and responsibilities.
Most work, however, requires the team to organize itself the way Team Fantastic did in the jungle: Each member had a different role and responsibilities. One person listened for predators and another person navigated, for example. The payoff for organizing the team this way is that each member can put special skills to use for the benefit of the team.
