Back into the Storm

Almost immediately after I retired as CEO of Amedisys, the company began to decline precipitously.

I received lots of advice about how to be a good ex-CEO. Since I remained board chair, I was intent on removing myself from day-to-day management responsibilities. No new CEO wants the old CEO hovering nearby. My board was particularly sensitive on this issue and advised me to give my successor a wide berth.
