One day as I was looking at our company’s organizational chart, my first thought was, “This is completely wrong . . . ass backwards.” When I turned it upside down, it suddenly made complete sense. Ideally, Amedisys should operate as an upside-down pyramid. At the top are our patients, next are our clinicians who deliver care directly to our patients, and after that are locally based teams that provide direct support to frontline caregivers.
Following those top-three tiers are regional care center managers and business development liaisons. These professionals solicit and coordinate patient referrals and transfers. Next are the business-line leaders who manage the company’s divisions. At the bottom is me. This made total sense. ...
