First up, by virtue of its opening in 1994, before any of the other case studies, the 20300m2 ITE Bishan is one of the eleven or so institutes that make up Singapore's Institute of Technical Education. It is in Bishan New Town between the North-South MRT Line and the Central Expressway, towards the centre of the country, and it provides business studies courses for about 1800 students. Its two parallel blocks of teaching accommodation are laid out on a curved plan, with an 18m-wide separation between. Administrative areas and library are at the northern end; the multipurpose hall and dining area are at the south (Figure 4.1).
