PREFACE

Two questions keep coming up for me. The question “what is costume design?” is a constant pursuit and one that seems to change with experience. As an educator, the question “what can I do with a costume degree?” is one I find myself answering to friends, family, and students alike. With this in mind, seven artists have come together to discuss the how, what, why, and what’s next of the ever-evolving art of costume design. With the different writers, we have a wider and more varied view of the art, how to approach it, and how to define it. It is our hope that the differences of opinion and thought will excite and inspire, encourage creativity, and help the reader to form opinions as well.
