In this chapter, we’ll explore generative art—images created by algorithms that use randomness. We’ll begin with “random art,” a catchall phrase for three different approaches to producing artistic images. Alternative methods exist, but these will give you a taste of what’s possible. We’ll also learn about fractals, which were extremely popular a few decades ago when personal computers were finally powerful enough to do interesting things with graphics.

We’ll generate many color images in this chapter, though this book is in black and white. I suggest running the code to see them properly.
