In a Global Outlook Survey completed in 2015, a survey question asked which sector was most trusted in leadership. The responses were:

  • Nonprofit and charitable organizations
  • Business
  • Education
  • International organizations
  • Healthcare

News media, government, and religious groups were ranked the lowest. The results of this survey clearly show that the general public can identify the levels of trust they have with various sectors. The need for transformation in each sector and industry is higher than ever before.

The survey went on to ask what change leadership skills are required to win back confidence and trust. The skills identified as needed are:

  • Global interdisciplinary perspective
  • Long-term planning
  • Strong communication skills
  • Prioritization of social justice and well being over financial growth
  • Empathy, courage, morality, and a collaborative nature

The type of leader that emerges from the skills identified as needed is a leader who has an upgraded leadership operating system. The upgraded leadership system is a mind-set that shifts away from creating polarity or competition and moves toward creating coopetition (a blend of competition and cooperation) and integrative solutions.
