Holistic Editing
Integrating the Macro and the Micro
In Chapters 4 through 7, we discussed macro versus micro approaches to editing. Earlier, in Chapter 3, we discussed the Three R’s approach to editing and mentioned also the Seven C’s Plus One formulation. All of these represent different ways to think about the editing process and to keep the basics in mind. You can use any or all of them that seem useful to you.
In this chapter, we introduce one more approach: what we call holistic editing. We think you’ll find this a particularly practical technique in helping you edit stories speedily yet thoroughly.
