WHY IS THIS IMPORTANT?
We are currently living in the digital era and things are changing exponentially. The first commercial text message was sent in 1992 – today the number sent and received daily exceeds the total population of the planet. In Africa today, more people have a mobile phone than access to safe drinking water. The top 10 in-demand jobs in 2010 did not exist in 2004. We are currently preparing students for jobs that do not yet exist using technologies that have not yet been invented. For students embarking on a four-year technical degree, half of what they learn in their first year will be out of date by their third year of study.
