STRATEGY AND ATTENTION
Despite the proclamations of some consultants and academic strategy gurus, business strategies are not God-given, but rather crafted by imperfect humans for use by other imperfect humans. Among the human imperfections that should be considered in such processes are both the human inability to focus attention on multiple subjects at once and humans’ overall shortage of attention. Our attention-oriented view of strategy is an example of a behavioral approach, the goal of which is not to reveal the perfect strategy for an organization.
