In this chapter I look at the impact of automation on employment in the past and extrapolate to suggest the likely impact in the future. This discussion about jobs leads to a more general discussion about ethics and the way that AI can be applied for the good of society.

The elephant in the room is the question of jobs for humans. What is going to be the impact of automation of work on the jobs landscape and society as a whole? These are complex questions that cannot be answered easily, given that in the jobs market there are other factors at work.
