6. Trying Other Operating Systems
So far, we have focused on the operating system (OS) that comes delivered with the BeagleBone Black. However, a number of operating systems have been ported to the BeagleBone Black. To understand what I mean by “ported,” you need to reach back to our talk about the architecture of the CPU on the board, which utilizes the ARM architecture. Ported simply means that the operating system has been compiled to operate with a specific architecture. In this chapter, we look at the king of embedded operating systems, some of the OS options available, and the process for installing an OS onto your board.
