Part ThreeFinding Beauty Within the Beast

A vaudeville routine begins with an empty stage. Then stage right, you see the rear end of… then the whole person of… a clown tugging on a heavy rope, pulling it from behind the curtain across the stage. Whatever is on the other end of the rope is unseen and resisting. But the clown is making progress, loudly huffing and puffing, pulling the rope taut across the stage. The clown pulls the rope off stage left, and now you see nothing but the rope wobbling horizontal to the stage, and you hear the clown’s grunting and wheezing as he continues his work offstage. The rope keeps moving to the left… and now you hear someone on the other end of the rope… and now at stage right, you see someone’s feet sliding, ...
