CHAPTER 10Be Calm

On Thursday morning, the family was planning to go on a trail ride. We had been petting and feeding some of the lovely horses over the course of the week, and the girls already knew the ones they wanted to ride.

I told them I was not actually sure if they would get their choice, but they had high hopes. Like many of the activities on the farm, this would be a first for our family. None of us had ever been on a horse. My husband wasn't looking forward to this outing, but as with most activities, the kids were super pumped.

When we arrived at the stable, Levi greeted us. We recognized him immediately as the man who had valeted our car. He was pretty much wearing the same thing.

My husband, as usual, tried to be funny and asked Levi if he was in charge of transportation at the farm.

“Anything that gets people around, I handle,” Levi said with a chuckle.

Levi asked everyone to gather around the stable. There were about 12 people, kids and adults, going on the trail ride. Everyone seemed to be giving off the same vibe. They were both excited and nervous. Levi asked, “Who here has ridden a horse before?” Three hands went up.

He said, “Well, you're in luck. These horses do trail rides all day long. They could walk the trail in their sleep. I'm going to pick out a horse for each of you based on your size.”
