CHAPTER 15Be Proximal
On Monday morning, we packed the car to leave the farm. Everyone gave us a fond farewell. We said goodbye to Helen, and Henry made an appearance at the front drive. He handed me the recipes for Catherine's Caring Nectar and Catherine's Honeysuckle Essential Oil, along with a legal document granting us the exclusive rights to make and sell them through Essentially Proximal. There was one condition. We must come back and visit the farm each year.
I felt a tear trickle down my cheek and thanked him for that wonderful gift. I said I would certainly take him up on that.
On the drive home, the kids could not stop talking about the experience and how much fun we had on the farm. We cheerfully talked about everything we learned the whole way back. My mind drifted to Henry and the many lens‐check moments he encouraged; who knew that a beekeeper could have such a profound impact on me and at a farm, nonetheless.
Tuesday came quickly and we were back to our routine. A rooster woke us up, but only because my kids had changed my phone alarm to be a rooster sound. We all had a good laugh that morning at breakfast.
After we got the kids to school, Tom and I headed to the office.
When we opened the door, we could not believe what we saw. Large posters with quotes were hanging along the walls.
They were all about bees.
